Cookie policy

This policy explains how LCT Fulfilment Services Limited ("we", "us" or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on https://lowcarbon.services. It should be read alongside our privacy policy, which sets out how we handle personal data more generally. We have written it to be honest and specific about what this website actually does, rather than to list technologies we do not use.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to remember preferences, and, in many cases, to measure how a site is used or to deliver advertising. Similar technologies, such as local storage, pixels and tags, can be used for the same purposes. Cookies are commonly described as either "strictly necessary" (needed for the site to function) or "non-essential" (used for analytics, personalisation or advertising).

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR, non-essential cookies may only be set with your consent. Strictly necessary cookies, those required to deliver a service you have asked for, do not require consent, although we still tell you about them here.

The cookies we use

We do not set any analytics, advertising, tracking or profiling cookies, and we do not use third-party web analytics or advertising pixels. The hosting and security systems that serve the site may use strictly necessary cookies to balance traffic and keep the site secure. These do not track you across other websites and are not used to build a profile of you.

One part of the site uses browser storage rather than cookies: the coverage map on the installer application form, which is drawn by Mapbox. When you reach that step, Mapbox saves map tiles in your browser's cache, in a store named "mapbox-tiles", so that the map loads quickly, and writes three entries to your browser's local storage, named "mapbox.eventData", "mapbox.eventData.uuid" and "mapbox.eventData.uuidTimestamp". These hold a randomly generated identifier, replaced every 24 hours, which Mapbox attaches to its map load records for billing and aggregate usage statistics. Mapbox states that this data is not sold and not used for advertising or profiling. Mapbox sets no cookies. We have switched off Mapbox's optional performance reporting, which would otherwise send details of your device and screen. The map load record itself, and the identifier that goes with it, cannot be switched off while the map is in use. We treat this storage as strictly necessary to provide the map you are using on that step, and it appears nowhere else on the site, so we do not show a consent banner. The map is drawn by Mapbox, Inc., which acts as an independent controller of the data it receives; see "Who we share it with" in our privacy policy and Mapbox's own privacy policy at https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

If you contact us through a form on this site, the information you submit is handled as described in our privacy policy. That process does not rely on advertising or tracking cookies.

If this changes in future

We may decide to introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies in future, for example, to understand which pages are most useful so we can improve the site. If we do, we will update this policy first, list the specific cookies and their purposes, and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set, through a clear consent mechanism that lets you accept or reject them. We will not quietly enable tracking without telling you; this policy is updated before anything new is stored on your device.

How to control cookies in your browser

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Most browsers let you view the cookies that have been stored, delete them individually or in full, and block cookies from being set, either entirely or for specific sites. The relevant controls are usually found under the privacy, security or site-data section of your browser's settings or preferences.

• Block or delete cookies for this site, or for all sites, from your browser's settings.
• Use a private or incognito window, which typically discards cookies when you close it.
• Set your browser to warn you before a cookie is stored.

Because this site does not depend on non-essential cookies, blocking or deleting cookies should not stop you from reading our pages or contacting us. If you block site data for lowcarbon.services, the coverage map on the installer form still works; Mapbox simply cannot save tiles or its identifier in your browser. If the map cannot load at all, the form shows a list of postcode areas in its place, so you can still answer the question. Deleting site data for this site removes the Mapbox entries described above.
